Audioprosthetists
Job description
These individuals fit and replace hearing aids on the recommendation of audiologists, speech-language pathologists, or physicians. They are also called upon to modify or replace prostheses. They may be self-employed, work in speech-language pathology and audiology clinics, or in audioprosthetists’ offices.

Main tasks
- Examine individuals to determine the degree of hearing loss using assessment techniques and electroacoustic testing.
- Recommend and prescribe appropriate hearing aids.
- Take an impression of the client’s ear for the manufacture of the hearing aid.
- Installing, adjusting and modifying hearing aids, if necessary.
- Advise clients on the use, care and maintenance of hearing aids.
- Make the necessary follow-ups with clients and adjust their devices.
- Sell, if necessary, assistive listening devices (teletypewriters, adapted alarm clocks, etc.).
